1. About this service
HERCULES UNIVERSE ("the Service") is a place to record and keep the history of individual beetles and their lineages. It is run by a private individual.
The Service does not authenticate what is recorded. Locality, generation and lineage names are stored as claims made by the person who entered them. The Service never certifies them as official.
2. Your account
An email address is required. Please register an address that can reach you.
Keeping your password safe is your own responsibility.
Please do not use several accounts to make it look as though the same beetle is held by different people.
3. How records are treated
Once something is recorded, editing it does not erase what was there before. Visible corrections are what makes the record trustworthy.
Withdrawing a record leaves the fact of the withdrawal in place. The record itself is not deleted.
Every beetle is given an HHC ID. Anyone who knows the ID can see that beetle's public information.
4. What is visible to others
Beetles you set to public, along with your display name and profile, can be seen by anyone.
Your email address is never shown to other users.
5. What you must not do
Make false claims in order to mislead others.
Register a beetle that is not yours as though it were.
Use the Service for trade, import or keeping that breaks the law.
Post photographs or text that infringe someone else's rights, such as copyright or likeness rights.
Interfere with the operation of the Service, or harvest data from it by automated means.
6. Rights in your photos and text
Photographs and text you post remain yours. They do not become the operator's property.
The Service uses them only as far as needed to display, store and back them up. They are never used for advertising or promotion without your permission.
7. Changes and discontinuation
Because the Service is run by one person, it may change, and it may one day stop.
If it is to stop, we will give as much notice as we can and provide a way to export your records.
8. Limitation of liability
The Service is provided free of charge.
The operator is not liable for damage arising from loss or alteration of data, or from the Service being unavailable. This does not apply where the operator acted intentionally or with gross negligence.
The Service is not a party to any transaction or transfer between users.
9. Changes to these terms
These terms may change. When they do, the last-updated date on this page will be revised.
10. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the law of Japan.
The Tokyo District Court shall have exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over any dispute relating to the Service.
